New DCS Playground Shades the Day
The ribbon cutting ceremony for the new state-of-the-art $130,000.00 playground was held on Monday, August 20, 2007.  In attendance was DCS President, Dr. Dino Pedrone, Elementary School Principal, Craig Konchak, elementary students, and staff.  The playground includes the finest new equipment, swings, flooring, and shade kites.  Craig Konchak, DCS Principal, stated "We are committed to providing a healthy surface, safe structure and protection from the sun for our pre-kindergarten and elementary students." The flooring is a specially treated turf that percolates the water in order to maintain the shape of the grass-like blades.  The shade kites block out 98% of the UV Rays and reduces the temperature by seven to ten degrees.  Mr. Konchak went on to say "This investment will benefit our students immediately and for years to come."

Suarez Goes All Star
Last month, Tiffany, a DCS 6th grader, was one of 10 children chosen from among 750,000 candidates to be a part of the Jr. NBA/WNBA National Team. In Las Vegas she participated in the NBA's All Star Weekend. The road to this accomplishment started right here in South Florida, where Tiffany is a part of Tony Fryer's One-on-One Basketball Academy and plays on the Girls Got Game travel team. Last season, she earned the following awards while playing point guard on her travel team: AAU State Champion, USSSA Regional MVP, USSSA National All-Tournament Player, USSSA National Three-Point Shooting Champion, and USSSA National Champion. In addition, she was chosen captain of and played point guard on DCS' JV Team, helping to lead them to a winning record. Before even getting to Las Vegas, she was honored by the Miami Heat with a chance to take part in a team shoot around and an opportunity to try on the championship ring. She even snagged a hug from her "Humble Superstar" Dwyane Wade.

Crusader Cheerleaders Rock Nationals
The 2006-2007 Dade Christian Competition Cheerleaders tumbled, stunted, jumped, and cheered their way through the Fellowship of Christian Cheerleaders National Competition in Orlando, on New Year's weekend. The Varsity team finished in the top ten in the largest division, having over twenty teams. The elementary team finished third with an impressive super hero performance. The Junior High team performed a greased lightning theme that shook the mat and the judges and were named National Champs in their division. The Junior High stunt group finished third and the elementary stunt group finished first. Ashley Gutierrez placed second in the 5th & 6th grade division and Christina Irizarry won first place in the 9th & 10th grade division with almost a perfect score and was given a National Champion Title!
