DCS Clinic

DCS has a great team in our on-site clinic. We are ready to take care of your child if a need arises. Please take a moment and familiarize yourself with the clinic's policies and procedures.

Our clinic is available for students who become ill or are injured while at school. The student is responsible to make the teachers aware that he/she is sick or injured. Students will be permitted to stay in the Clinic one hour. After that they must either return to class or go home.

If the student has a temperature of 100 degrees or higher, has diarrhea or is vomiting, the parents will be contacted to take the student home. The student is to be free of fever and symptoms for 24 hours before returning to school.

MEDICATION
Signed permission from the parent/guardian and a licensed physician must be obtained before any medication can be given at school. Authorization forms are available in the Clinic. Students are not allowed to carry non-prescription medication to school.

If it becomes necessary for your child to take medicine during school hours, it must be given by the school nurse only. All medication must be in the original prescription bottle with the student's name, name of medication, amount to be given, and duration.

Websites of Interest to Parents
The following websites may be useful for researching medical care for children:

EMERGENCY CARDS
All emergency cards are kept in the Clinic. It is important that you keep this information up-to-date so we may contact you if necessary.

TRANSPORTATION OF ILL STUDENTS
It is the parent's responsibility to provide transportation for a sick student within one hour of notification from clinic. In an emergency where there is a life-threatening situation or an accidental injury, 911 will be called to assess the situation and transport if needed.

EARLY DISMISSALS
All early dismissals are handled through the Clinic for grades 7-12. A note should be brought from the parents stating the time needed for dismissal. Students in grades 3K-6 may wait in the classroom or Clinic until a parent picks them up; secondary students may wait in the Clinic. No student is to leave school early prior to signing out with the Clinic and getting their homework from the teacher(s).

For safety reasons, we cannot dismiss any student to anyone other than his/her parent without written approval. Please do not ask for an early dismissal by phone. We want to take every precaution in the protection of your child.

COMMUNICABLE DISEASES
Dade Christian desires to maintain a healthy school environment by instituting controls designed to prevent the spread of communicable diseases. The term communicable diseases means an illness which arises as a result of a specific infectious agent which may be transmitted either directly or indirectly by a susceptible host, infected person, or animal to other persons.
